Mission and Vision
Of the Texas Childrens's Choir
With over 19 years touring and performing in Central Texas, and 6 years based in San Antonio, the Texas Children's Choir performs for numerous and diverse audiences. Its fourfold mission guides the director in planning and managing the activities of the Choir.
The mission of the choir is to:
- Provide a challenging choral experience to children who are motivated to sing and perform, and to provide a more demanding experience than may be available in the regular school or church choir environment;
- Provide opportunities to perform on a regular basis, to master skills in choral technique, and performance;
- Provide audiences in the community with entertaining, uplifting, and inspiring performances of choral music;
- Provide a forum for children to learn to interact as a group; supporting one another and solving problems as a team; by learning to respect themselves, peers and adults; and by developing a service-oriented attitude.
If the choir performs its mission, the vision is that:
- These children will become competent singers, musicians, performers, and team members;
- These children will mature emotionally and spiritually in a way that they will feel stronger and more confident. They will feel better about themselves, and be more comfortable contributing and giving to their families, peers, and community;
- These singers will be able to use their acquired skills and experiences to be better students, and friends to others. They will also be more confident in their careers in their selected field of endeavors and be responsible individuals;
- The community will be exposed to the influence of quality and inspiring music. Hopefully, the community will be inspired to promote more service towards one another and increase its interest in its children and young people.
I have enjoyed and found fulfillment in working with these children and choirs over the last 38 years because of the significant impact on me of having had a similar growth experience as a child, and because of the wonderful personalities I have had the privilege of working with singers and their families.
